NATIONAL RACES & POPULATION

The majority of the 54 million population are ethnic Burmese who ranges more than 60 % of the total population and the minorities are such as the Kayin, Kayah, Kachin, Rakhine, Mon, Chin and Shan. There are again numerous tribal groups and the total number of 135 different ethnic groups are recorded and recognized. Chinese and Indian population ranged about 2% of the total population.

FAUNA AND FLORA

Rare species like tigers, leopards, barking deer and golden deer are still found in some parts of Myanmar. Variety of birds including rare species birds, butterflies and many insects like crickets, buffaloes and cattle can be seen in all over the country.

GENERAL INFORMATION

The Myanmar calendar is based on the lunar cycle, many important holidays are held during full-moon days. The year 2011 is the year 1373 in Myanmar calendar. The western Gregorian calendar is used as well.
